Brookville Tailwater Fishing Report 4.30.13

Brookville Tailwater Fishing Report The river has been perfect, beautiful green scenery, water flows pretty constant with a little jump up this past week, but the trout have definitely been on the bite. Blue winged olive, midges, and some larger mayflies (hendricksons) are starting to come off the surface both in the early-mid morning and later in the evening. The river is holding constant at 4.42 ft, which is good flows for spring time runoff and rain. Just as you would read about fishing tailwaters in magazines or books, you will need small dries, especially the midges and BWO, sizes 18 to 24 and 20 and 22 being...

Brookville Tailwater Fly Fishing Report

Brookville Tailwater Fly Fishing Report The Tailwater is finally back down to fishable levels. I have heard of some good reports with some hatches and good catches. I am heading out that way this weekend to take a peak. I will post up a report by the weekend to help gage what is about to happen on the stream in the next few weeks. As of right now the Army Corp of Engineers is getting the lake back to summer pool so they are holding water. When the Corp does this, the tailwater heats up with anglers and hungry fish. Brookville Tailwater The Snow and rain has been cyclic for the past couple of weeks. The Army Corp is really pumping water out. The gage has remained around the 4ft mark for several weeks now making most of the fishing impossible unless you are able to brave the elements, the flows, and the patience to nab a trout or two. Once the weather breaks here in the next couple of weeks, Brookville Tailwater should be on fire. The Spring time is great with beginning hatches of BWO's and midges. Swinging dries on a hatch can produce some good numbers in the spring time. I personally would start tying...

Brookville Tailwater Fishing Report 2.8.13

Brookville Tailwater fishing has been high in the past couple of weeks. With the retreat of snow, the rain, the return of snow, and again the melt, the Army Corp has been tough to gauge on what the early morning output is going to be. The flows right now are in the 4ft range. Higher water, which I suggest to use extreme caution if you are not familiar with the river. If you are heading out, I would toss some streamer patterns unless you are fishing the pocket water. Try some patterns that have olive/white, all white, yellow, chartreuse, or black. A sinking tip will help to get the flies down in the water...
