Ohio Smallmouth Fishing Report 10.6.17

The Start of the FALL SEASON
. A great time of year to target many different species of fish. The recent hot weather without rain has really been great for congregating the smallmouth together in the deeper holes. The afternoon and late evening bite has been the best. Hopper, spiders, frogs, and other top water baits are the key. The heavy thick grass is a great place to start the retrieve and makes sure to find the larger boulders/rocks along the middle of the river.

Now with the onset of rains, the bite will change. From stripping larger white streamers to a bottom bouncing technique with black leeches, you should this switch once the cooler weather arrives. Need to refresh the bottom bouncing technique, take a look at a Tim Holschlag YouTube video. ┬áThis weekend looks a little rainy, but look towards the headwaters of the major rivers to fish better. 70’s with a raincoat should be just perfect!

This is also the time to rig back up the streamer fly lines… sink tips or full sinking lines. Once Late October hits, I am usually nothing but this especially if the water is up. Watch the water gauges or give us a call at the fly shop at 937-434-8472 for update to date reports. Have a great weekend. Good Luck
